Trailer Tyre Applications

Terrain Tyres offers an extremely diverse range of trailer tyres for sale.

ATV Low Pressure Trailer Tyres

We stock a large range of the common ATV trailer tyre sizes in a variety of different ply ratings and tread patterns. 22x11.00-8 (22x11-8) and 25x12.00-9 (25x12-9) are two of the most common options for ATV trailers as these offer great flotation properties and lightweight construction for use when towing behind ATV's and UTV's. Most tyres feature a knobbly block tread that maintains lateral grip without damaging the top surface of the ground, but we also stock more aggressive options for use on steep bankings and hill farms.

Flotation Implement Trailer and Machinery Tyres

Large agricultural trailers and implement machines such as balers, tedders and spreaders require a tyre with a good load rating but also need to have flotation properties and a tread pattern that doesn't damage the ground they are being used on. Our range of Implement trailer tyres features brands from BKT, Alliance, Ozka and GRI to name just a few. With the most competitive pricing online, you can rest assured that you are getting the best selection of agricultural trailer tyres available at the very best prices.

High Speed Trailer Tyres

Whether you are looking for tyres to fit a small domestic trailer of trailer tent, or are needing replacements for your livestock trailer or horsebox, Terrain Tyres has a wide range or very competitively priced high speed trailer tyres, for use on the public roads. We offer all of the common sizes and patterns from a great range of different manufacturers, ensuring  there is an option for every budget. A lot of the trailer tyres we offer for use on Ifor Williams trailers and Bateson trailers (to name just a couple!) are also commercially rated and we carry a variety of different weight ratings in the different sizes. We also offer a great range of flatbed trailer tyres, car transporter tyres and boat trailers.

Caravan Tyres

Who can blame people wanting to explore all the the British Isles has to offer and as 'staycations' are becoming more commonplace again, people are taking the opportunity to get their touring caravans out and enjoy all that there is to experience. Safety is a key concern when towing a caravan and recommend to change caravan tyres regularly, is certainly something that should be taken into consideration as part of the caravan maintenance schedule. We have caravan tyres starting from as little as £25 each, so changing them every 5-10 years is not a prohibitive exercise, especially to keep your caravan , vehicle and passengers safe.

Trailer Tyre Sizes

Finding the correct tyre for your Implement Machinery involves knowing the correct tyre size. The size is usually written on the sidewall of the tyre and can be displayed in a number of different ways. We have detailed an explanation of how the different methods of measuring the tyre can be written below:

Two Number Imperial Tyre Sizes - e.g. "4.00 - 8"

This measures the size of the tyres in inches. The first number denotes the sidewall of the tyre, which also indicates the width of the tyres as the sidewall is a percentage of the width. In this example the sidewall height is approximately 4" which is 85% of the width, so the width of the tyre is approximately 4.8" The last number is the diameter of the rim (wheel) in inches. Sometimes these sizes are also marked with the width first e.g. 4.80 / 4.00 - 8. To all intents and purposes, the size 4.80 / 4.00 - 8 is the same as 4.00-8

Three Number Imperial Tyre Sizes - e.g. "20.5 x 8 - 10"

This measures the size of the tyres in inches. The first number denotes the overall height of the tyre in inches which in the example above is 20.5". The middle number is the width of the tyre which is approximately 8". The last number is the diameter of the rim (wheel) in inches. In this example it would be 10"

Two Number Metric Tyre Sizes - e.g. "145 R10"

The first number represents the width in mm 145mm in the example above and the second digit is the rim diameter in inches so would be 10" for the example above. These sizes sometimes include the sidewall height for example "145/80 R10". These two sizes are technically the same size.

Three Number Metric Tyre Sizes - e.g. "155 / 70 R12C"

This is the newer, 'metric' measurement where the first number is again the width of the tyre, but is measured in mm. In this case 155mm. The second digit represents the tyre sidewall profile (height) as a percentage of the width. In this example the sidewall height would be 70% of 155mm (approx. 108mm). The last digit is again the diameter of the rim (wheel), still measured in inches. In this example it would be 12". The "C" at the end of this tyre size indicates that this tyre is suitable for commercial use.

Trailer Tyre Load / Speed & Ply Ratings

One of the most important values of a high speed trailer tyre, or agricultural trailer tyre to get right is the load index. Most trailers for road use are 'plated' to carry a certain maximum weight and it is important to make sure you select a tyre that is capable of carrying this weight. You can always go over on the weight rating, but choosing a tyre that does not have a sufficient load index can lead to premature wear or failure.

Trailer Tyre Load Rating e.g. " 74N "

You can find the load index of your tyres by looking on the sidewall for a number followed by a letter e.g. 74N as above. These numbers and letter relate to a specific load rating and maximum speed rating that the tyres have been tested to and approved for. In the example above, each tyre would be capable of carrying a maximum weight of 375KG up to a speed of 86mph. You can find more information on the load and speed rating in our Tyre Guide section.

Some trailer tyres have two numbers and a letter e.g. 104/102N. In this case the first number is the number used for single axle trailers and the second is for multi-axle trailers. So would achieve 900KG (104) when used on a single axle trailer or 850KG (102) on a multiple axle trailer.
